    Compounded Medications: the FDA and the Law
1. By law, compounded prescriptions do NOT have an NDC number.
2. By law, compounded prescriptions do NOT require FDA approval.
3. By law, compounded prescriptions are NOT investigational or experimental.
4. By law, an NDC number does NOT determine whether or not a prescriptions is required to obtain a medication.

Virtually all insurance carriers and contracts cover compounded medicine. It is recommended you submit you claim to your insurance for reimbursement. If you believe you are wrongly denied, send your file to your state insurance commissioner's office for review.
